Starting Ekocite over 25 years ago allowed me the flexibility to choose many different types of projects – from new home builds to remodels, and everything in between. I have a passion for designing unique homes and remodeling projects that reflect each owner’s personality and style. I hope you find the projects here to be inspirational for your project needs. ~ Tammis Donaldson
Form of a Building
Cottage Home on a Lake: Cottages don’t have to be far away and small houses don’t have to feel small. See how one couple used their passion for design and an old, rundown lake house to create their dream cottage.
Mid-Century Modern with Parallel Roofs: By replacing an old carport, a Rochester, Michigan, couple added more space to their Mid-Century Modern-style home without losing its charm.
Pleasant Hill Farm (A New Old Farm House): After visiting historic Rugby, Tennessee, a couple contacted Ekocite to adapt the house plans of an Andrew Jackson Downing style home to create their dream farm house.
Traditional Style Home: A recently retired couple wanted a home that fit their lifestyle of photography, art, and grandkids. They also wanted a home in their favorite vacation town near Lake Michigan.
Tree House Without the Tree: When you build a house on an old dune ridge overlooking a valley, it can make you feel like you’re living in a tree. But this 4,000+ square-foot home is far from an average tree house.
Victorian House: A retired couple replaced their cottage on Harsens Island with their dream home. With a 2.5-story home, they can now watch freighters pass by on the St. Clair River from their perch.
Outdoor Living
Craftsman-Style Porch: Nestled in a 1950s neighborhood, the redesign was inspired by the homeowner’s love of Craftsman-style homes.
Sunroom Addition: The owners wanted to bring in more natural light to their Cape Cod-style home built in the early 1900s. The major challenge was to preserve the original style with a sunroom addition.
Timber Frame Porch: Part of a multi-phase project, Ekocite designed a timber-frame porch leading into a new foyer addition. The porch’s walkway, stairs and floor are made of blue stone.
Indoor Living
Kitchen and Dining Area Remodel: A couple with two young boys needed a new kitchen for convenience, space, and better traffic flow. An elegant and spacious open kitchen and dining area were the result.
Kitchen and Mudroom Remodel: A growing family grew frustrated with their small kitchen, joking they danced around when someone opened the refrigerator door. They also wanted a mudroom for the kids.
