New Home to Fit a Retired Lifestyle

Location: Ludington, Michigan

When a metro Detroit couple retired, they wanted to live in a home that fit their lifestyle in a location where they enjoyed vacationing. They also wanted a place where their grown kids and grandkids could come and stay. They found a corner lot in downtown Ludington.

The couple approached Ekocite and another architect and ended up selecting the local architect originally. However, eight months into the project, they ended the relationship with the other firm and approached Ekocite to take over. Because they had worked with Ekocite before, they knew Tammis would be approachable and not egotistical.

Because the lot is in Ludington, the challenge was to make the house fit in with the neighborhood. After all, it is a traditional town with traditional houses and the couple is traditional, as well. But it also needed to have a lot of light for the couple’s photography and art studio.

Sitting prominently on their corner lot, the couple is now able to enjoy the next chapter in their life. With plenty of space for their grandkids, and space for a photography and art studio, retirement is like an extended vacation. Not only because of the house, but with the ability to easily walk around town, enjoy Lake Michigan, and then go for a freshly caught fish dinner in the evening.

Included in the project:

  • New 2,800 sq. ft. home.
  • Craftsman-style front porch.
  • Positioned on the lot so they can enjoy a large yard.
  • Built to their retirement, photography, and artistic lifestyle.
