Dancing Kitchen: Remodel and Addition

Kitchen & Mudroom Remodel
Location: Royal Oak, Michigan

A young couple with a growing family was frustrated with their small kitchen. They often joked about dancing around when someone opened the refrigerator door. The couple also wanted a mudroom next to the kitchen for their kids. However, the challenge in adding a mudroom was building it without blocking the kitchen’s outside view.

After an initial discussion, Ekocite Architecture was invited to look at the house, yard, and space available. An “out-of-the-box” design was proposed: Extend the area of the kitchen by adding on, and then design a lowered mudroom in the space.

Testimonial:
Hiring Tammis was the best investment we made during our recent home addition. After listening to our wants and needs, she gave us just what we wanted, and more than we thought we could afford. Everywhere we look we see the small touches she added. Her process, and most importantly, her results are tremendous. We are so pleased with all she has done for our home and family.

This approach enabled the clients to achieve their goal of adding a mudroom for dirty shoes, a new kitchen with more space, and the ability to keep their view to the yard. Dancing still happens in the kitchen, though, but only when the music is playing.

Included in the project:

  • Remodeled kitchen with more space.
  • Open-air, lowered mudroom next to the kitchen.
  • The ability to view the outside from both rooms.
  • Plenty of cubby space for jackets, boots, and shoes.
